This review was posted six years ago as five stars. Today, I change it to one star. My parents have been living here for almost 7 years now. New owners are horrible, the beautiful and happy place this once was is gone, they need to care less about cutting costs. They need to hire competent and caring workers and increase the damn price if profits is an issue. Don’t cut costs at the expense of your existing customers! Shame on you! This place can go back to being great, there are some amazing people who live here but the mentality of the staff members needs to change, please hire nice people who want to be working here, not snobs who need the money, please please please.

I recently relocated from Banyan Place to another ALF for several reasons. I had never lived in assisted living prior to Banyan and I guess my expectation level was too high. I entered being addicted to oxycoden and with Banyan's medical help I was able to reduce my dependence on the drug. When I left Banyan the executive director was kind enough to allow me to take some furniture with me at no cost. I wish Banyan the best and hope to be happy at my new home. When I left the executive djii

If I could give Banyan Place --0 stars, in fact minus10 stars, I would. Do NOT send your loved one to Banyan Place, Boca Raton. Since Banyan was sold a year or so ago, it has progressively gone downhill. It is GROSSLY understaffed. Those who do work here, sent by an agency, do not care for the residents. The last straw came almost 2 weeks ago when my brother fell in his apartment. He heard the med tech come in and called her name for help. She ignored him, left his meds on the table (these should be personally administered to my brother), heard him call, and walked out of the room. He was left on the bathroom floor incapacitated for over 3 1/2 hours! (He could not reach his call pendant.). When staff finally did come in, 911 was called but did not take him to the hospital (who made this decision, no one will tell me!). In fact NO ONE from Banyan called to tell me he fell that night! I found out the next morning from my brother who sustained a bruised eye, and several contusions on his forehead, knee and wrist. He said this was the worst night of his life. The very next night, he fell again! This time 911 called me (I live 4 hours away) and said he was being taken to the hospital. He arrived in the ER with hypoglycemia due to insulin overmedication from Banyan. (This is the reason for his falls!) He remained in the hospital for 5 days and NO ONE from Banyan called me to find out how he was or what his condition was. He did not return to this awful place and he will never will! Hopefully, Banyan Place will be shut down soon.

My father has been in Banyan for over four years when it was a family owned business. He was so happy he was cared for. The owners themselves reached out with updates and information. The nursing staff was happy and everybody cared for everybody else. Then Banyan got bought out around 2022. The new owners have changed so much they brought in horrible management staff that treats the tenants like inmates in a prison. They charge my father $400 in his checking account with no explanation Why and even ignored my numerous request for an explanation of what these charges were. When I got his social worker involved, Mary threatened me to charge him even more and said it’s because they have to change his diaper too much. Imagine! Mary the manager called me and said incontinence was an issue, and I reached out to his social worker that watches over him to see if we can find a solution. Maybe different medicine. She said it was very strange because she was just there for a visit and wrote up an entire care plan for the following year, and nobody mentioned a word to her Next thing I know he’s getting evicted!. Mary, the manager brought him an eviction paper to sign and made him feel like he’s going to be out on the street. I can tell you both the VA administration and their social workers, as well as Pace social workers were flabbergasted at this behavior, and completely disgusted in how Banyan is handling a war veteran elderly person and incontinent patient that doesn’t cause them any trouble. During his 30 days of eviction notice, the staff was instructed not to give him baths anymore. He complained about it to his social worker and I put it in writing as well. Mary’s answer was that he refused bathing. Are you kidding me??!!?! I actually have all of her lies in an email. I called other assisted living facilities in working on moving him and they’re all shocked that this is the reason they’re kicking him out. Absolutely disgusting. ALF is supposed to handle incontinence. They made him sit in his own diapers all day and he would get rashes and infections . They even barred him from coming to the cafeteria instead of helping him change his diapers. They made him eat in his room, like a prisoner in solitary, without reaching out to anybody to get any solutions, and in the end they gave him an eviction. This should be criminal!! I wanted to write this to let everybody know it’s not the same Banyan it was when it got all the good reviews and I think the previous owners would be heartbroken to know how their patients are being treated. This never would’ve happened under their watch. DON’T SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE. The new owners are riding the backs of the old owners at our family members expense. Sadly, I did not know how bad it was for him until the end of his stay there. On a happier note, he’s in a new place and he comments every day how kind and attentive everybody is because he was neglected for the last year. What a way to treat a Vietnam veteran tenant that payed over $4000 for a room at Banyan! Perhaps they wanted to get him out because they wanted $4500. Sorry so long but I wanted to give all of the ALF shoppers out there the most honest review as possible because it is such a difficult decision.
